Simplifying donning for patients

Why the Proximal Lock?

Simply easier. Designed to control rotation and be more user-friendly, the Proximal Lock attaches over a larger area, which distributes weight more evenly. The adhesive included with each lock is flexible even after it sets, making donning simpler.

Important Information

Billing: The Proximal Lock will bill just like a distal pin lock system (L5671). Gluing the lock to the liner turns the Proximal Lock from a cushion liner to a locking liner (L5673).

Improved Suspension: We recommend adding an expulsion valve to most sockets that use the Proximal Lock. This helps with donning and will evacuate the maximum amount of air from the socket which improves suspension and reduces pistoning.

Limb Type: The Proximal Lock was designed to work with long limbs and can be the primary suspension for patients who may not have room distally for other lock options. The Proximal Lock can be used for short limbs only with a distal pin; in this case, the Proximal Lock will act only as a rotational control.

Retrofitting: The lock can be retrofitted to an existing socket or put on the outside of a test socket.

Test Socket: Initial fitting of the socket should be done without the lock. For extended test periods the lock van be retrofit to the socket.

CHOICES:

The CD101 Summit Lock and the CD102 LowPro Summit Lock are still available, however because of the improved liner attachment and easier-to-use glue, we strongly suggest using the Proximal Lock instead.

Billing Information: Recommended Codes

L5679*: Addition to lower extremity, Below Knee/Above Knee, custom fabricated from existing mold or prefabricated, socket insert, silicone gel, elastomeric or equal, for use with locking mechanism

*Adding the Proximal Lock to a cushion liner changes the liner from a cushion liner to a locking liner. So we recommend billing L5679 instead of L5673.
